Managing Your Test Results

Getting Support for an HIV-Positive Result

Receiving an HIV-positive result can be overwhelming. AHP offers a variety of services to help you get the assistance and support that you may need. Among these programs are:

Linkage Program
AHP’s HIV Counseling and Testing Service provides a Linkage Program for clients who test HIV-positive. This service matches clients with one of our Linkage Counselors who schedule follow-up appointments after the initial test result disclosure. Linkage Counselors help clients integrate the emotional impact of their test results and help them figure out what next steps to take. Clients can receive up to three additional sessions to get support in linking them to important services such as medical, legal, partner notification, and psychosocial services.

REACH Program
AHP’s Risk Evaluation and Counseling for Health (REACH) Program offers a variety of services to support HIV-positive gay and bisexual men and protect others from getting infected. Among these services are individual and couples counseling, support groups, and workshops.

Staying and Being HIV-Negative

Staying HIV-Negative
Testing for HIV is a big step even if you discover you are HIV-negative. Most people test because they are afraid that they may have engaged in a behavior that put them at risk of infection. An HIV-negative result may confirm you are doing what is necessary to reduce risk, but sometimes the counseling session raises other concerns. AHP’s REACH Program offers a variety of services to help you get the assistance and support that you may need.
