Counseling to Help Gay and Bisexual Men Stay HIV-NegativeAHP’s REACH (Risk Evaluation and Counseling for Health) Program offers both individual and couples counseling for gay and bisexual men who are seeking to remain HIV-negative. Individual CounselingREACH offers free, time-limited HIV prevention counseling for up to 12 sessions for gay men of any HIV status. Counseling focuses on a range of issues, including sex and sexual negotiation, intimacy, alcohol and drug use, relationships, isolation, community, coming out, love, and self-esteem. Couples CounselingREACH offers short-term couples counseling focused on HIV prevention issues. Couples who might benefit from this counseling include couples in which partners are of mixed HIV status or couples in open relationships. Counselors help partners develop strategies to address difficult situations and to better understand each partners’ particular concerns. Counselors also help partners communicate about issues related to HIV and being in relationship. Couples counseling requires an intake interview for each partner. How Do I Sign Up?To find out more about either of these types of counseling, check out our FAQ section about AHP Support Groups or call 415-476-3902 and ask to speak to someone in the REACH Program.
